SAVE THE DATE: Montessori Parent Night

We invite all EC and LE Montessori parents to join us for Parent Night on Monday, October 13th at 5:00pm. This engaging evening will give you a snapshot of your child's day-to-day experiences, introduce parents to their works, and provide insight into how you can support growth at home.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT IS INTENDED FOR PARENTS ONLY/NO STUDENTS OR CHILDREN

PTSO Volunteers

PTSO is a group of parents/guardians that discuss different ways to help support our school, staff and students. We are in need of people with ideas for creating opportunities for families to engage during school and outside of school hours. You can be involved in as little or as much as you like. PTSO meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 5:30pm in the Mary Raber Library.

Heads Up

Mary Raber has many community organizations that reach out to those in need during the Thanksgiving and holiday seasons to offer help for families in need. If you feel your family could benefit from some help this year during the holidays, or would like to learn more, please contact Hannah Herman at Mary Raber Elementary (260) 244-5857

When to Stay Home

It is WCCS policy that students should remain home until at least 24 hours after they are fever free (100.0 F or greater) without the use of fever-reducing medications. Students should also remain home if they exhibit signs of a contagious illness, such as rash or redness/drainage from the eyes, cough, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Reporting Student Absences

All student absences should be reported to the office by 9:00am the day of the absence. There are 2 ways to report an excused absence:

1.) Through Skyward: be sure to add the student's reason for absence ( if under 10 absences)

2.) Upon return to school, having a student turn in a doctor's note or hand written guardian note stating date(s) missed and reason for absence (if under 10 absences)

ALL phone calls, voicemails and emails reporting an absence are unexcused until the either step one or two above are complete.

PLEASE NOTE: Once a student has had more than 10 absences, a doctor's note must be turned in for the absence to be considered excused. All absences over 10 without a doctor's note are unexcused.

Lost and found

Lost and Found

It is getting to be the time of year when its colder and students will be wearing hats, coats and gloves to school and at recess. Please be sure to write your child's name on those items. This will help to cut down on the number of unclaimed items and clothing that remain in our lost and found throughout the year. If your student is missing any items, please encourage them to check in our lost and found located by the cafeteria.

LE Swim lessons

The Whitley County YMCA will be hosting swimming lessons for all Lower Elementary Montessori students. All sessions will run from December- January or February-March. (No classes over break) Permission slips and a more detailed schedule will be sent home with your lower elementary student after Fall Break! All LE students will need a school appropriate swimsuit (no two-pieces) and a towel. Students will not be permitted to dry their hair so swim caps are also suggested.

Bingo For Books

Mary Raber is hosting a Bingo For Books night on October 7th at 6:00pm. ALL of the prizes will be books! Bring the whole family for a night of fun!

We will also host a book fair on October 7th and 8th. Shopping will only be available during the Bingo for Books event on the 7th at 5:30pm and after school on the 8th from 2:30-3:30pm. Please park in the parking lot after picking up your student and remain in your car until 2:30pm. You will not be permitted to enter the building until after dismissal is over. DO NOT send money to school with your student. There is NO shopping during the school day for students.

Mary Raber's First Ever Read-a-Thon Fundraiser!

We are excited to announce that Mary Raber will be holding our first- ever school-wide Read-a-Thon fundraiser this October! Our PTSO will be sponsoring and supporting this event and all proceeds will directly benefit our students and school.

How it works: Students will be encouraged to read and gather support from family and friends. Funds raised will go toward school programs and activities that help all of our students succeed.

Incentives & Prizes: Students will have the opportunity to earn fun rewards:

Individual Prizes for student achievements, classroom prizes for collective efforts, and school-wide incentives when we meet our goals.

More details will be coming soon from our PTSO with information about how the Read-a-Thon fundraiser will work, collection instructions, and the exciting incentives students can earn.

We are thrilled to support our students, encourage a love for reading, and raise funds to make Mary Raber an even better place to learn and grow!

On Friday, October 31st, Mary Raber will host a schoolwide read-a-thon event. Students will participate in fun reading activities throughout the day. This day will also be a pajama day for all students and staff.

Volunteer/Background checks

If you would like to volunteer in your child's classroom for parties, field trips, etc., an approved background check must be on file prior to your visit. Please allow up to 2 weeks for processing. You may stop in the office to fill out a volunteer release form and provide a copy of your driver's license or state issued ID. Volunteers are required to have a background check on file for the current 2025/2026 school year.

Lunch Visitor

Mary Raber cafeteria is open for lunch visitors on October 1st. If you would like to have lunch with your student, please be sure to call the office at least a day ahead of time to reserve a guest table. You MUST have an approved background check for this school year on file. You will need to bring your driver's license with you to school that day. This is always a special treat for your child to enjoy with you. No other students are allowed to join you and your student for lunch. Please feel free to bring lunch for your student, but no soda/pop is permitted in the cafeteria. After lunch is over, please return to the office to check out of the building. Parents are not permitted to go out to recess with the students. Thank you.

Dismissal Reminders for Mary Raber

All current day dismissal changes must be made by 12:30pm. You can call the office or send a note with your child to school to let us know of any changes for that day. Calls requesting a change that are received after 12:30pm CANNOT be accommodated. Your student will proceed with their normal dismissal for that day.

Early dismissal pick up must be done by 1:30pm to avoid the bus and car pick up traffic at the end of the day. If your student rides the shuttle bus at the end of the day and needs to leave early, please call ahead of time so we know not to have your student get on the shuttle bus. Be aware that shuttle students leave our school building early and your student might not be here if you don't notify the office ahead of time.

If you have a Montessori EC student that naps in the afternoon and you need to pick them up early, please notify the office in the morning so we may have your student ready for pick up and avoid any nap room disruptions.

Turkey Run Time!!!

The Turkey Run Project provides Thanksgiving meals to local families in need and is sponsored by the CCHS Student Council. To support them in their efforts, Mary Raber students will be having a fundraiser the week of October 20th-24th. On these days, please bring a dollar (or more) to your classroom to help raise money for this outstanding project. Each class will receive a hand for every dollar turned in. The hands will be used to build our school turkey's tail feathers. The class that collects the most money/hands will be treated to an ice cream party. More information about this fundraiser will be coming home with your students later this month.
