Little Turtle Elementary Newsletter

October 2025

Hello, Fantastic LTES Parents!

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful, warm fall weather! As you can see with our activity list to the right, our teachers have many fun, events planned for your children this month. Thank you in advance for volunteering to help chaperone field trips for our students. We couldn't do it without you!

We look forward to seeing you on the 23rd for our annual Bingo for Books Night. It is such a joy to watch our students excitedly choose books after they bingo and our MC sending students to the book tables to choose a book! We also look forward to seeing you at Parent/Teacher conferences on October 29th so that we may celebrate your children and their growth with you!

Please invite a veteran to drive by our school on November 7th from 9:00 to 9:30 A.M. so our students and staff may honor them with big smiles, appreciative signs and waving flags to celebrate Veteran's Day. Thank you so much!

I hope that you always feel welcome to contact us so that we may do our best for you and your children. We take pride in the caring environment we nurture for your children and the research-based and fun learning activities we provide to ensure your children are learning and growing. We welcome your involvement and are happy to support you. Thank you for all you do! Julie Turpin

Volunteers/Background Checks

If you would like to volunteer in your child's classroom for parties, field trips, etc., a background check must be approved in advance of your visit. Please allow three weeks for it to be processed. You may stop in the office to fill out a volunteer release form and provide a copy of your driver's license or state-issued ID.

Lunch with Your Student

Our Little Turtle Mighty Oaks Cafe is open again for lunch visitors. If you or another family member would like to come for lunch, please just have a clear criminal background check from this school year on file with the office and send a note to your child's teacher. We look forward to seeing you again during lunch! This is always a special treat your children enjoy! We are not permitted to have pop in the cafe. After lunch is over, please exit through the office to sign out. Parents are not permitted to go out to recess with the students. Thank you.

Student Gifts & Birthday Invitations

Student gifts for birthdays and holidays should not be delivered to the school. Per the WCCS elementary handbook, students are not allowed to pass out invitations at school. Families are encouraged to find a time outside of the school day to deliver gifts and invitations. Thank you.

Skyward Information

Please keep your phone number, email, emergency contacts (someone other than parent/guardians) and emergency dismissal plan updated. This information is a necessity for us to contact you. Thank you for your help!

Legal Paperwork

Please make sure the LTES office has the most current copy of legal paperwork, if necessary, that pertains to the school day. Schools are only permitted to disclose student information to legal guardians.

Boomerang Backpacks

Boomerang Backpacks is a local program designed to help local families in NE Indiana provide children with nutritious food over the weekend. A bag will be filled with non perishable food items and one fresh fruit. If you registered your child, he/she will be given a bag each Friday afternoon that school is in session. Boomerang Backpacks will begin in September. If this program would benefit someone in your family, please register your children.

Dismissal Reminders

  • All dismissal changes must be completed by 1:00 P.M. Calls requesting a change received after 1:00 P.M. CANNOT be accommodated. Your student will proceed with normal dismissal plans after 1:00 P.M. (This allows the office time to update the dismissal change spreadsheet, make copies and deliver copies in advance to every classroom teacher and bus driver.)

  • Early dismissal pick up must be done by 1:30 P.M. (This ensures pick up's are completed prior to bus arrival.)

  • When picking students up in the car line, please display your ORANGE sign in the front window on your mirror. If you do not have your sign, you will be instructed to pick your student up in the front office.

  • Each family will select ONE location as the bus drop-off location for their child(ren). This location will be the only location for drop-off in the afternoon. Families may still call in and ask for their child to be parent pick-up or YCARE prior to 1:00 daily. The drop-off location can be changed if the need arises one time each grading period. This will ensure that drivers, teachers, office staff and child(ren) know where students are headed each day if they are riding a bus. Thank you.

When to Stay Home

It is the WCCS policy that students remail home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100°F or greater) without the use of fever-reducing medications, diarrhea and/or vomiting. Students should also remain at home if they exhibit signs of contagious illness, such as a rash or redness/drainage from the eyes, cough, sore throat, nausea, abdominal pain, chills, shortness of breath, new onset headache, loss of taste or smell.

Students are reminded to:

  • Cover their nose and mouth with their elbow when they cough or sneeze. If they use a tissue, throw it in the trash after they use it.

  • Wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after they cough or sneeze (alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective if soap and water are not available.)
